AEM Wideband Gauge

Understanding what’s going on with your vehicle in real time can be extremely beneficial.   An AEM Wideband gauge is one of many gauges available that are able to do that.

A Wideband gauge will allow you to accurately monitor the Air/Fuel ratio of your engine.  This data is extremely important when you have a tuned engine. Running rich, or lean can have negative effects on your vehicle. Running to rich is when your vehicle has very low air/fuel ratio and excessive fuel.  This can result in a loss of power. Running lean is when your vehicle is has very high air/fuel ratio, and not enough fuel. This can result in serious engine damage. To prevent this type of damage from happening its important to have a Wideband (AFR) gauge, especially during the tuning process. This allows your tuner to properly adjust the parameters for maximum power and efficiency.  This will also allow you to keep an eye and ensure your vehicle is running properly.

The Technology

Their X-Series Wideband is built upon unique 100% Patented Digital Technology.  This is the fastest responding wideband controller in independent testing. The faster response times allows for improved feedback, and can provide a safer, more powerful, and accurate tune. The X-Digital technology can reduce deadtime, and improve your vehicle’s performance through accurate tuning.

Deadtime is the delay between when the exhaust gas composition changes, and when that change is reported by the 02 sensor.  While flow of exhaust gases can affect deadtime, it is not the only source. The sensing elements response to the gas is the largest contributor to deadtime when an engine is in high RMP underload. Additionally to better report times, the X-Digital gives the ability to read and report values that other controllers do not. This can allow for more optimized engine tuning and a safer overall operating condition.

Since this gauge has high-speed digital implementation, it ensures no loss of signal fidelity and full transient response.  This makes it able to identify the slightest changes in AFR and output them in full value. 

The Design

The X-Series  measures at 2 1/6th-inch (52MM) in diameter.  It features a visually appealing faceplate and new seven-segment center display that is 87% larger then the 30-4110 AEM Wideband Gauge’s center display. This larger display can give the perfection its an overall larger gauge, but it is still a 52mm gauge.  This is the common size gauge, which allows for easy mounting. However, it is slim depth and ultra-slim cup depth of .200-inches will increase potential mounting locations. 

The X-Series has several other features which make it a great choice.  Its user configurable display allows you to change AFR values for different fuels.  It also allows you to perform a free-air calibration if desired as the sensor ages. Additionally it has auto-dimming features so the light is not harsh tough on the eyes while operating at night. Lastly, X-Series gauge also has output for feedback control and data logging.
