High Performance Brake Calipers

A brake caliper is one of the most vital parts of your vehicles braking system. Brake calipers are the device that "clamps" your brake pads onto your rotors, creating friction that causes your 1984 GMC K1500 to stop. There are two main types of brake calipers, floating (or sliding) calipers, and fixed calipers. Floating calipers move in and out relative to the rotor and have one or two pistons only on the inboard side of the rotor. This piston pushes the entire caliper when the brakes are applied. Fixed calipers, as the name suggest, don’t move but instead have pistons arranged on opposing sides of the rotor. Fixed calipers are usually more preferred due to their performance, but can be more expensive.

High performance brake calipers are a step up from your factory calipers. High Performance brake calipers will have two or more pairs of pistons arranged one ach side of the rotor. Some calipers can have as high as six pairs total. While shopping our large catalog of aftermarket brake calipers you will come across many different types of calipers including OE-type 1-poston and 2-piston calipers, aluminum multi-piston calipers, and many lightweight options. Another great style of performance brake calipers are billet aluminum monobloc fixed calipers. These calipers are lightweight and have less flex than your factory calipers. Some sets will have up to 8 pistons.
