Spark Plug Wires

When you want to go somewhere far away, it is as simple as turning the key in your 2007 Ford F-150’s ignition and then comfortably driving to where you need to go. However, this simplicity can quickly become a nightmare when certain parts of the vehicle break down, because turning the key may result in nothing happening, or the vehicle will not run as smoothly. When this happens, there are a number of parts to check and one of them is the spark plug wires.

The engine in your 2007 Ford F-150 is basically designed to turn fuel into mini-explosions inside each cylinder, which will cause the parts to move in the right order, at the right speed, so your wheels start or continue turning. The spark is provided by the spark plug that needs to get power from somewhere. This is where spark plug wires designed to carry high voltage over quite a long distance to the spark plug enter the picture.

As you would imagine, the spark plug wires need to be very strong to handle the amount of voltage moving along them. They also need to be able to live among serious heat and vibrations, because they are so close to the engine that they will actually touch it. To protect each wire from all of these problems and more, you will find thick insulation wrapping each one to make it perhaps the biggest and widest wire anywhere on your 2007 Ford F-150. The insulation is usually made of substances like rubber or particularly tough plastics to handle heat, vibration and liquids like oil.

While the insulation is some of the thickest you can find on any wiring, you will of course discover problems with wear and tear when the vehicle reaches a certain age. The insulation is not designed to live forever, since that would be impossible, and as it begins to break down problems will become more and more serious. One of the most common problems is that the electrical current is able to escape before reaching the spark plug, and this means the spark plug is unable to provide enough spark to cause all of the fuel to burn efficiently.
