High Performance Mass Air Systems

The mass air flow system, also known as the mass air flow sensor (MAF), is a sensor that determined the mass flow rate of air entering your 2007 Ford F-150. This information is extremely important because it gets delivered to your ECU to balance and deliver the correct fuel to the engine. The proper ratio of air/fuel is extremely important to protect your engine. If you’ve upgraded your intake system, chances are your factory MAF may not be able to gauge the higher volume of air you’re now receiving. This can make it difficult for your vehicle to receive the correct amount of fuel. A high performance mass airflow sensor has larger bores, and is designed to read larger volumes of airflow accurately. If you have any questions about mass air flow sensors reach out to one of our experienced representatives and we will help you make a more informative decision for your 2007 Ford F-150.

The Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) is one of the key components of an electronic fuel injection system in your car. It is installed between the air filter and the intake manifold of the engine. See the diagram. The mass air flow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine or the air flow.

Generally, you should get at least ten years of driving out of your mass airflow sensor, but this can vary depending on several factors. Over time, contaminants such as carbon will find their way into the mass airflow sensor, creating a buildup which makes it harder for air to pass through. The mass air flow sensor (MAF) is a key component of the electronic fuel injection system in a car. It is located between the air filter and the engine's intake manifold.

There are two common types of mass airflow sensors in use on automotive engines. These are the vane meter and the hot wire. Neither design employs technology that measures air mass directly. However, with additional sensors and inputs, an engine's ECU can determine the mass flow rate of intake air.

It is a good idea to clean the MAF sensor every time you change or clean the air filter. A clean MAF sensor can restore 4-10 horsepower to the wheels, which is a significant number for just cleaning a sensor.MAF sensors can become damaged, but more often they just get too dirty to do their job well. In this case, they can be cleaned but if it is a mechanical or electrical failure, they must be replaced.

symptoms of a mass airflow sensor failure are Stalling, jerking, or hesitation during acceleration. A bad MAF sensor can cause too much fuel to be left in the combustion chamber, creating untimed detonations. You'll experience this as poor drivability such as hesitations or sudden jerking motions, particularly during acceleration.
