Performance Throttle Bodies

The throttle body is part of your air intake system. The throttle body controls the amount of air flowing into the engine. Depending on your vehicle its exact function may vary. On older carbureted engines, the throttle body is built into the carburetor and will deliver more fuel as the valves open. In electronically fuel injected cars, the throttle position sensor and air flow sensor communicate with the computer which then supplies the corresponding amount of fuel needed at the injectors. On fuel-injected engines the throttle body is connected to the gas pedal. When you press the gas pedal the "butterfly" in the throttle body pivots allowing more air flow into the manifold. Now that we understand how throttle bodies work, lets talk about Performance throttle bodies. Your factory throttle body was not designed to supply the proper amount of airflow needed for your performance engine. A performance throttle body will allow greater airflow, which results in greater power. Most performance throttle bodies are a direct bolt on making the upgrade super easy process. Sport Compact Warehouse is your premier source for performance throttle bodies. If you have any questions reach out to one of our experienced representatives and we will help you make a more informative decision for your 2013 Ford Edge.

Improving airflow in and out of your engine is a proven way to boost power. Factory air intake systems restrict flow, so we recommend starting with a performance air intake system. This will increase airflow from the air filter up to the throttle body, which is the next restriction in line. Replacing the OE throttle body with one of our performance units will not only further enhance airflow for a gain in horsepower, but you’ll also get better throttle response as well.

The throttle body houses one or two plates that open to allow airflow into your engine when you step on the accelerator. Airflow through the factory throttle body is OK when the engine is unmodified and in its original state of tune. But when you’re upgrading airflow for performance, it can be the bottleneck that’s keeping your engine from making all the power it’s capable of. Installing a throttle body with a larger bore will let your engine breathe so it’s more powerful, efficient, and responsive.

We offer throttle bodies for most popular vehicle applications and engines in a range of sizes, so you can increase airflow according to your engine’s state of tune. Mildly modified engines will definitely benefit from an upgrade in throttle body size, but one that is too big can negatively affect throttle response. Go for the largest size throttle body only if your engine is highly modified, such as with a forced induction system. Our selection includes throttle bodies for newer vehicles with Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), also known as "drive-by-wire", as well as traditional cable operated systems.
